Come near to God,
and
God will come near to you.
James 4:8
If you want to know God better, the first step is to open your heart and life to Jesus. Only then can you begin to draw close to God. As you read earlier, Jesus is the way to God. Just as you enter into a house through the door, you enter into a close relationship with God through Jesus Christ – by putting your trust in him and allowing him to lead and guide you along the best paths of your life.
Once you’ve entered through this “door,” one of the best ways to give God the opportunity to make himself known to you is to spend time alone with him regularly - talking to him in prayer, and listening to him as he speaks to your heart through the Bible.
Along with this, God may also choose to make himself known to you in many other ways. For example, he might use the things that people say and do, or the things that happen to you. So, keep your eyes wide open as you go through each day, then you will be able to see all that God is showing you.
Now, as you are getting to know God, remember to live in light of what you are learning. The more you live out what you already know, the more God will teach you about himself. On the other hand, if you don’t make use of what you already know, why should God teach you even more?

Regardless of where you turn to gain more knowledge about God, remember to be a careful and wise learner. Don’t automatically take in everything you hear. Prayerfully study on your own, and compare all teaching to what the Bible actually says. Ask God to guide you, and hold on to only those teachings that are confirmed in Bible.
